Nomination Essay: My Uncle Patrick is a true hero and has inspired me in so many ways. Uncle Pat was serving our country in Iraq last spring when his helicopter crashed. Uncle Patrick was alive but in critical condition. His back was broken in five places, his left leg was amputated above the knee, and there were other serious injuries. Through hard work, determination, and wonderful doctors, therapists and nurses, Patrick is on the road to recovery. Before the accident Pat enjoyed a very active lifestyle and even now with a prosthetic leg and fragile back he continues to enjoy biking, hiking and swimming. He also gives motivational talks to other soldiers. My uncle’s positive attitude and dedication to continue to live his life to the fullest has inspired me to make changes in my own life and become the best I can be. His accident has encouraged me to seek a career in the healthcare field.

Nomination Essay: I married my wife in 2000, however, our love was tested so early on. We had our first child in 2002 and tragically, days later I was involved in an Army AH-64 helicopter crash. She took care of our newborn and me over the next year. At one point, I was even restricted to a wheelchair and depended on her so much.
Since this time she continues to amaze me with her strength, determination and her desire to help others. In 2007 she raised over $2000 and rode her bicycle 200 miles one weekend to benefit children and adults with disabilities. This year she raised over $4500 and ran a marathon and a 1/2 marathon in 2 days to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Finally, at 40 years old, she has enlisted into the Army to become an Army mental health counselor. She has seen first hand from a wife and mother's perspective the devastations from a traumatic event, so she feels it's her calling to help other soldier's and their families suffering from PTSD.
We are all so proud of her and we will miss her dearly during her 7 month stint away from home while she is training. She is a loyal wife, amazing mother and now she’s our military hero who continues to inspire us all the time!

Nomination Essay: Everyone of our Military people are Heros....there is no question of that,this is a voluntary job and lifestyle. But 35 years ago, there was a song "Billy Don't Be a Hero" and we sang it to my little brother, Billy, all the time never knowing what the future held. He has been my hero and by rock my entire life. His 19 year military career in the USAF has served this country well and allowed him to follow dreams of a child. An F15 fighter pilot, Preditor Pilot and now a graduate of "War School 1 & 2" he is a top notch guy that believes in God and this country, family and life. He has been in war, seen things we don't need to know about, and still is one of the most caring, most sincere people I know. Bill joined the service at 18 years old, put himself through college (two degrees, criminal justice and youth ministrie). With cronic back and neck problems (due to flying, and spine problems) he continues to struggle with a mattress that allows him a good nights sleep. Please help him with a mattress that will comfort him and support him when he is home in a safe place, instead of the many cots he has slept on.
